The Sandhills Motoring Festival ( SMF ) was initiated in 2018 by Porsche Club of America member, Marvin Waters, and Mercedes Benz Club of America members, Steve Redwine and Bill Faison. Taking place over Memorial Day Weekend, it was a tremendously successful event with over 150 participants from North Carolina and from other areas along the East Coast. History of The Southern Pines Garden Club – by Andrea Leach The Southern Pines Garden Club was founded in 1948 by Mrs. Elizabeth “Buffie” Ives and her friends with the purpose of giving horticultural support to the new Shaw House restoration. Twenty “knees in the dirt” gardeners who were well connected to our town were asked to join the organization. The earliest monthly meetings were all business, as programs for the year’s focus were chosen to enhance the beauty of the town wherever needed. An annual garden tour was established at the beginning to help finance the landscaping programs of

John was a lifelong educator who began his career as a high school teacher and coach and ultimately focused his efforts in community college education.
