Miriam Chesham Borel Endowed Scholarship

For his wife’s eightieth birthday, Paul Borel chose to honor and surprise her with a Sandhills scholarship in her name. Prior to her marriage Mrs. Borel pursued a career as a social worker, and, following the spirit of Mrs. Borel’s career, The Miriam Chesham Borel Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a second-year student in Human Services Technology. Student must demonstrate financial need, and student must demonstrate potential for success in Human Services Technology.

Having parents who were deeply involved in the Salvation Army was an early and profound influence on the life of Miriam Chesham Borel. The Borels’ daughter, Nancy Borel Ellis, serves on the Sandhills Foundation Board of Directors. She recalled that a basic tenet of the Salvation Army is ,serving God by helping man, and she believes that her mother has lived her life according to this principle.
