Dr. Clay Daughtridge Nursing Scholarship

Dr. Clay C. Daughtridge was a native of Rocky Mount, NC. He graduated from Wake Forest College to receive his bachelor’s degree in 1955. In 1959, he graduated from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine and joined the U.S Army Medical Corp. where he served as a major. He served his internship at William Beaumont General Hospital in El Paso, Texas and his residency followed at Tripler General Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was Chief of Internal Medicine there in 1963.He went to Womack Army Hospital from 1963-66 where he was Chief of General Medical Service, and Acting Chief of the Department of Medicine. In 1966, Dr. Daughtridge moved to Southern Pines to co-found the Pinehurst Medical Clinic with Drs. Hiatt and Wallace. He retired 32 years later.

Established in his memory in 2003 by his colleagues at Pinehurst Medical Clinic and his wife, Mrs. Frances Daughtridge, The Dr. Clay Daughtridge Nursing Scholarship is awarded to an Associate Degree in Nursing student believed to have potential for success. Student must maintain a 2.0 GPA, and must demonstrate financial need. In the spirit of Dr. Daughtridge’s career, student must demonstrate above and beyond acts of kindness.
