St. Joseph of the Pines, Inc. Scholarships
St. Joseph of the Pines, Inc. has been serving Southern Pines and Pinehurst for more than 60 years. Beginning in 1948, the former Pine Needles Inn operated as St. Joseph of the Pines Hospital, a 75-bed acute care facility. In 1965, the Sisters of Providence transitioned and transformed St. Joseph of the Pines into a provider of retirement living and services to older adults.
The Alex Del Bueno Nursing Scholarship was established to honor a long standing supporter and Board member of St. Joseph of the Pines. Throughout his numerous years of voluntary service to the organization, Mr. Del Bueno embodied the organization’s mission and core values, in particular; stewardship, integrity and commitment to those who are poor.
This scholarship will provide financial assistance to a first year Associate Degree Nursing student, and through the years, will be a reminder of Mr. Del Bueno’s legacy of selfless service to the organization. The student should demonstrate financial need, and preference will be given to employees of St. Joseph of the Pines. The student recipient should exhibit high integrity and compassion for those in need.
