Louise and Horace Porter Endowed Nursing Scholarship

Established in 2004 by the daughters of Louise and Horace Porter, Nancy Lou Wyhof and Margaret Ann Fidler, as a tribute to their parents and to celebrate the superior care their parents received from the doctors and nurses in Southern Pines and Sanford. The Louise and Horace Porter Endowed Nursing Scholarship is awarded to first year Associate Degree Nursing students based on merit who are from Moore or Lee County.

After retiring to Southern Pines in 1975, Horace and Louise Porter enjoyed an active life in the community. They delivered meals for Meals on Wheels for over a decade and were very active members of Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church. The couple also enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends across the country.
