Rick Rhyne Memorial Scholarship Fund

Moore County sheriff’s deputy Rick Rhyne was killed in the line of duty on Dec. 8, 2011, after responding to investigate a reported trespassing at a home on Morrison Bridge Road. Deputy Rhyne served as the Foxfire Village police chief from 1981 to 2006 before joining the Sheriff’s Department. He started his law enforcement career in 1974 with Pinehurst. He served six years, rising to the rank of sergeant. Deputy Rhyne enjoyed working with and mentoring young people, and his scholarship continues that spirit of fostering the young.

The Rick Rhyne Memorial Scholarship Fund honors and celebrates Deputy Rhyne’s life and his 38 years of honorable service to the people of Moore County. Established by his wife, Wanda Rhyne, in 2012, The Rick Rhyne Memorial Scholarship is awarded with preference given to children of law enforcement officers from Moore County (then other counties if none from Moore have applied). Awarded to a deserving student enrolling full-time in any degree program at SCC with selection based on merit and potential for success. If no candidates are available who are children of law enforcement officers then this scholarship is awarded to a Criminal Justice Technology major.
