Richard "Dick" S. Waterman

Richard “Dick” S. Waterman served in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a salesman for Dow Chemical Company and moved to Southern Pines in 1990 to be president of Waterstitch Company.

He was a member of the Sandhills Chamber of Commerce and an active supporter of Sandhills Community College. He was an avid golfer, loved the Atlanta Braves, and collected Volkswagen Beetles.

After he died in 2006, a remarkably generous estate gift was left to Sandhills Community College to endow the Richard S. Waterman Scholarships in Honor of The American Red Cross.
