James “JP” Walker Memorial Turfgrass Scholarship

JP was a lover of golf and the outdoors which made the perfect combination to become a Turfgrass major. He was a member of the first graduating class of the Sandhills Turfgrass Program. He enjoyed his time at Sandhills along with the many years he worked at the Country Club of North Carolina before becoming the Director of Greens and Grounds at Cape Fear Country Club in Wilmington, NC. JP was taken from all of us way too early after a seven month battle with an aggressive terminal cancer. He fought his battle hard and with a smile just as he worked and lived every day. We have chosen to celebrate and in memory of him give someone the opportunity to pursue their dream to become a Turfgrass major.
