The American Association of University Women ( AAUW ) is the nation’s leading voice promoting equity and education for women and girls. Since their founding in 1881, AAUW members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day — educational, social, economic, and political.

Adam was a native Lee county resident who had an amazing sense of curiosity along with an adventurous nature. He was uniquely gifted in all things mechanical and had a huge innovative streak. His passions for the worlds of automotive and motorcycle systems ran deep. Nothing brought out that dimpled smile bigger than “That” sound… The sound of a perfectly tuned engine. Adam graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Automotive Systems Technology and was focused on his budding profession. To broaden his expertise, Adam had been working for Honda Suzuki of Sanford when an after work ride ended

Both Alan and Molly had parents who were keenly aware of the value of an education. Alan’s father Charles Birchler earned his degree from Purdue University and Molly’s father earned his degree from NC State. Alan grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio graduating from St. Ignatius High School and several years later from Purdue University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Molly grew up in Albemarle, NC graduating from Albemarle High School. She earned her undergraduate degree from Coker College, Hartsville, SC and later a Master’s degree in Education with emphasis on Reading from the

The American Singles Golf Association is a group of chapters throughout the United States and Canada organized to find groups interested in getting together to play golf. The Pinehurst Chapter holds general membership meetings once each month and play golf as a group frequently. Many social-only events are also held throughout the year.

Both Barbara Sutherland and her daughter, Emily Sutherland Bowles, were non-traditional college students. Barbara attended college in the 1930s, when women were relegated to their traditional roles, and few pursued higher education. Her family struggled financially to educate Barbara, but she was a successful student and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. A product of the community college system, Emily earned a nursing degree. Later she attended Radford University, where she juggled the roles of mother and wife, earning a bachelors degree in primary education at the age of 41. Described as cheerful

As I write this (10 April 2019), the “Event Horizon Telescope,” by astronomical interferometry, has produced the first ever image of a black hole. This was an international collaboration which effectively made the Event Horizon Telescope (as large as) the size of Earth. In addition to other experiments and observations (i.e. LIGO ), this proved Einstein’s general relativity theory which he dared to dream, 103 years ago. The Bradford Alden Evans Memorial Nursing Scholarship was established in 2009 by Bradford’s his loving wife, Dorothy. Dorothy turned 103 years old in December of 2021.

The Central Electric Scholarship Fund was established in 2001 and is awarded to a student who is a member of
