Crystal Dawn Harrelson Memorial Endowed Scholarship
The Crystal Dawn Harrelson Memorial Scholarship was established in 1999 in loving memory of Crystal by her parents, Kip and Constance Maroney of Raeford, after Crystal was shot and killed while driving her car on Main Street in Raeford. Crystal was a recent Hoke High graduate, and only 19 years old when she was killed. Crystal was an honor student, a fantastic athlete, and very involved in extracurricular activities at Hoke High School. She was planning to begin college in the fall of 1999, majoring in physical education. Her parents created this scholarship to help students achieve the dream of attending college that was denied Crystal.
The Crystal Harrelson Memorial Scholarship is awarded to graduates of Hoke High School planning to attend Sandhills Community College. Like Crystal, applicants should exemplify characters of giving of oneself to others, leadership qualities, and energy and enthusiasm in school and community activities.
